AQP UK Division
Frequently Asked Questions
This page will attempt to answer the questions most frequently asked. It is always suggested that you post your question to our shared Facebook Group or email it directly to email@example.com and we will help you.
- What is the Angel Quilt Project?
The AQP is an international group of cross stitchers, machine embroiderers, quilters and finishers who make hand-made blankets that are then freely given to hospitals around the world for families with premature babies. The UK Division in particular looks after the premature infants in the UK along with the tiny patients staying in a children's hospice.
- How do I become member of the UK Division?
Send an email to our Division Head, Caroline and she will work with you.
- What are the requirements to help?
A love of cross stitch, machine embroidery, or quilting! Also a willingness to help others is greatly appreciated as well.
- I don't cross stitch or sew. Can I still help out?
Absolutely. The AQP UK is self-funding, and we always welcome donations of money, embroidery threads, fabrics, and other essential sewing notions. Please contact Caroline for more information.
- I know of a sick child or premature infant's family that will treasure a quilt. How can I be sure they get one?
Caroline, our Division Head will be happy to help you.
For Stitchers and Quilters
- I don't live in the UK. Can I still participate?
Absolutely! We warmly welcome people from all over the world to help out our British children.
- What's my first step?
Find a child-friendly design and stitch it on a 12" x 12" square or larger.
- How long do I have to stitch my piece?
Generally, we do not have any time deadlines.
- What designs do we use?
You may use any child-friendly design for our Division. We get a lot of requests for animals, teddy bears, and toys. Look through our Gallery to get some ideas of the designs we have used in the past. If you need some resources for free charts, please check our Links page or ask in our Facebook Group.
- What kinds of fabric and what colours can we use?
You may use any fabric you feel comfortable with - Aida or evenweave - in almost any colour you choose except orange or black. If you have doubts, please do ask before you stitch!!
- Do I need to sign my piece?
Yes, we ask that all stitchers sign their work with their initials and the month/year. Please don't do it in white thread or ecru. Your name should coordinate but still be legible.
- What do I do with the design when it is all done?
You will want to contact Caroline (firstname.lastname@example.org) and she will let you know who to send it to. Please try to help your finisher by including a couple of pounds if you can.
- Do I need to wash my piece before mailing it?
Ideally, yes. There will be times when you will not be able to. If that is the case, please enclose a note with your square so that it can be handled appropriately.
- What if I still have questions?
An email to Caroline will get you the needed answers, or you can post on our shared Facebook Group. Please put AQP UK in the subject line of your email!
